All productions require a Technical Ground plan to accurate locate and place our scenery items for the allotted space that both Lighting and the Performance team are counting on.
To accurately locate the scenery, we plot points on our stage in reference to the above chart. Dimensioning all these points muddles the page and requires a great deal of time. To expediate this, I create a table of these points using a data extraction targeting the plot point label blocks and extract their x & y position data.
Several Columns were designed into the Rydell High Exterior Facade. This first plate tasks the carpenter with crafting 4 of these columns in batches for increased efficiency
With the standard columns framed, they need to have sheathing, or masking in theatrical terminology, to create the scenic element.
Our two remaining columns require compound miters to accurately register against the angled walls. With such a challenging task for even skilled carpenters, I isolated the individual components that required the compound miters as to not overwhelm my students.
This plate covers the final assembly and masking of the stage right column.
This plate covers the final assembly and masking of the stage left column.
